Reg Lagaac, Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist Renal Vascular Access - an inspiration to other nurses

Reg is Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist Renal Vascular Access and is an inspiration to other nurses. He joined Addenbrooke’s hospital from the Philippines 16 years ago. He received Cambridge University Hospitals “Nurse of the Year Award 2015” given during the International Nurses Day celebration.   Some of his achievements include:  graduating in  Master of Studies in Clinical Effectiveness at Cambridge University (CU) in 2007, Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Education at Cambridge University in 2008, Master of Science in Research Evidence Based Practice at Anglia Ruskin University in 2010, Leadership in Health and Social Care Practice in 2014 and passed the Advanced Skills in Clinical Assessment 2015.

He was shortlisted for Nursing Times Award 2011 for

Infection Control Prevention for Haemodialysis Patients

He has been presenter and speaker at numerous  nursing conferences including  International Congress of the Vascular Access Society, Istanbul Turkey, May 5-7, 2011 – Topic: The Outcomes after Ulnar-Basilic Arterio Venous Formation

42nd International Conference for the European Dialysis Transplant Nurse Association (Sweden from August 31st to September 3rd 2013. Topic: The Effectiveness of Anti-thrombotic to unblock partially clotted Dialysis Lines).

International Conference for the European Dialysis Transplant Nurse Association (Dresden Germany from the 26th to 29th of September 2015)

He has done much charitable work:  

He coordinated with Addenbrooke's Staff raising funds for the Typhoon Hyan Victims in the Philippines with the Trust’s Equality and Diversity lead, Monica Jacot and other nursing colleagues raising £14,000

He climbed Ben Neavis  raising funds for Addenbrookes Kidney Patients  Association (£560)

Coordinated with the Medical Research Council and raised £1700

Cycled – Tour de Dialysis and raised funds for the National Kidney Federation

He has been nominated 8 times for the “You made a difference award” at Cambridge University Hospitals. I am delighted to nominate Reg who is always such a positive role model for all nurses.
